Do you have a completed novel-length manuscript that reflects the beauty of the Catholic faith? The Falling Dusk Publishing Writing Contest is open now, and all entries must be received by November 1.
Falling Dusk Publishing is excited to host the Second Annual Writing Contest for authors who are writing clean, faith-filled fiction for Young Adult readers and older.
This contest was created to encourage writers who are working to bring stories of faith, hope, beauty, courage, and truth into the world.
If you have a completed manuscript, this is your final call to enter before submissions close on November 1.
Contest Prizes
The Winning Author Will Receive:
- $500 prize
- Three hours with Jacqueline Brown’s editor of 10 years
- A one-hour meeting with Jacqueline Brown and her Falling Dusk Publishing team to ask questions about writing, publishing, marketing, and next steps.
Contest Eligibility
Who May Enter
- Open to self-published authors or writers with completed manuscripts who are preparing to self-publish.
- Work must be novel length. No short stories, please.
- Manuscripts may be any genre but must be geared toward a Young Adult audience or older — no Middle Grade or younger.
- All entries must be a clean read that portrays the beauty of the Catholic faith, either explicitly or implicitly.
- Writers of all ages and experience levels are welcome. However, if you have more than five published novels, please do not enter. The goal is to help writers get established.
- Manuscripts do not need to be fully edited, but they should be easy to read. Some professional editing is highly recommended.
- Authors do not need to have a cover, reviews, or an established following to enter.
- Stories should be well-crafted, with well-formed characters.
- Stories should reflect the original work and creativity of the author. Works generated by AI or copied from other sources are not eligible for entry.
Submission Guidelines
Submit Before November 1
- Entries must be submitted in full manuscript form. No partial manuscripts, please.
- Authors must include a short bio and a brief statement on how their faith guides their writing.
- No prior publishing accolades, reviews, or marketing history are required.
