Matthew’s Silver Linings & Other News

It has been almost 6 weeks since I last wrote a post, and I have to say I have missed it! The biggest event of the last 6 weeks was hands down Hurricane Matthew. We were in a mandatory evacuation zone and decided not to be “those people” who stayed despite the warning. We were able to use the time off of work and school to our advantage and visit with family we had not seen in about two years. They were kind to take my husband and I, our two young sons, and our two dogs into their house that was neat, orderly, and the home of two cats and no kids. The boys were well-behaved and the cats hid. It was a great trip.

Another of Matthew’s silver linings – having an empty fridge and no power gave me plenty of time to figure out how to remove the strange brown stain at the bottom of the fridge that’s been bugging me for almost 3 years! I was also able to get the dirty shoe print off the bottom shelf of my freezer (have I mentioned I have two young boys). After five days without electricity, the power came back and life started to get back to normal. Last evening marked a pretty significant event in that the four-foot wall of debris on either side of our driveway disappeared, thanks to a monstrously huge clean-up effort by our county. The boys continue to ask several times a week, as we are driving home from school, if the power is still on. But they have stopped asking if they are allowed to open the refrigerator or flush the toilets, so we are making progress. We also learned that the old rotten dock swing with rusted chains that is featured in the above picture, is in fact strong enough to withstand a hurricane, who knew? I would now feel comfortable letting my boys sit on it, if only we could get to it.

The other, and far more exciting, thing that has kept me busy these last 6 weeks is Book 2! I have been working hard to get it to a space where I feel comfortable sharing it with my beta readers. Based on their feedback, I think you are going to be happy readers. In addition to writing, I have teamed up with an amazing producer who is creating book trailers for both The Light and Book 2. I saw a rough draft of The Light’s yesterday, and I cannot stop watching it. He thinks the final version will be ready by the end of next week so stay tuned! I will be sharing it here first. Once he finishes that one, he will begin working on the trailer for Book 2. The cover artist for Book 2 is also hard at work. I will share it with you when it is finalized. So, for those anxiously awaiting Book 2, you don’t have much longer to wait. Thanks to all of you for being part of this journey with me! I hope the next entry I write is to share the trailer!!
